Should PR own Social Media?

Obviously yes. But I think the question needs sometimes to be raised. This article I discovered lately discusses this question, and offer an overview of the reasons why PR should own Social Media over Marketing or Advertising department.

As for me, I tend to think that
1/ we also need to demonstrate always more that PR is relevant for Social Media to our clients. They sometimes just don’t have a correct vision of what it implies in term of conversation, relation and discussion management.
2/ we need ever more to blend Social Media in our daily PR activity (this is sometimes considered as something “optional”)
3/ we should also need to consider teaming with partner for delivering appealing online campaigns. And I’m thinking on the technical aspects of social media campaign (should we create a blog ? Can someone tweak me the blog’s code ? Do we have somewhere a designer dealing with CSS ? We need to create a facebook app, is there a code-wizard somewhere ?)

How do you deal with these questions on your respective country ?

Disruptionblog blocked in China – update / not anymore

Jeremy wrote that the blog cannot be accessed from China recently.  The great firewall of China striked again :’-(

We are currently trying to find a solution – it seems that the server’s IP address hosting the Disruptionblog website is now blocked in China (as well as the other websites hosted on the server with this IP address).

Comments from anyone having experienced similar issues are more than welcome …

[update] not anymore, apparently ^_^

New resources

Following the update of the plateform, a couple of improvements have been done.
Links collection : a collection of blog related to Text 100 is now available on the sidebar. Do not hesitate to visit them or to request to add them.
Who’s who page : on the pages available on the tab menu, a who’s who section has been created : it’s a directory of all the Disruption Blog user registered, based on the info available on their profile. The page is in progress, but currently, you should have the basic information.
Weekly newsletter : a weekly newsletter is also in the pipe to allow users to get the best of the week, if they cannot follow the blog on a regular basis, and to spread the content.

Jo from NYC is also conducting a new experiment to share info on a wiki with, hopefully, a lot of info to be shared here 🙂 : https://text100peermedia.pbwiki.com

Same car, different engine

Just a rapid word to let you know that the blog engine (wordpress) has been updated to wordpress 2.7 which is faster and more secure. The admin area has also been changed quite a lot. If you feel a bit lost, I recommend you this introduction video about the new feature and interface of wordpress 2.7.

By the way, I also invite you to catch an eye on the great wordpress.tv website recently launched gathering tons of tutorial video about wordpress (I especially recommend you the publishing and admin sections)

You might experience little issues with the upgrade – do not hesitate to notify us and we’ll fix that as soon as possible.

And as always, should you have any question, comment, concern or thought, feel free to share 🙂
